New York, 28 July 2011- Permanent Representative of Slovenia Ambassador Sanja Štiglic addressed the General Assembly earlier today. She illustrated how necessary it is for the youth to participate in society despite how badly the economic crises have impacted negatively on their lives, particularly in the area of unemployment. It was stressed that young people must be involved in decision-making processes through initiatives such as Slovenia’s Youth Parliament and Youth Work schemes. Ambassador Štiglic explained the importance of non-formal education and volunteering as means of empowering youth and involving them.
In closing, Ambassador Štiglic emphasized that “youth are the force of change…they still continue to be marginalized and ignored. We must build a prosperous future for them.”
