President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr Türk addressed a high-plenary session of the General Assembly on implementation of the Millennium Development Goals

 

New York, 21 September 2010 - President of Slovenia Dr Türk addressed a high-plenary session of the General Assembly on implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and co-chaired one of the six round tables of High-level event, addressing emerging issues and evolving approaches.

President of the Republic of Slovenia Dr Türk addressed a high-plenary session of the General Assembly on implementation of the Millennium Development Goals on 21 September 2010.

President Dr Türk said that Millennium development goals are crucial for humankind and a key test of the flexibility of the United Nations. He believes international aid is most efficient when individual states’ initiatives are also considered. Countries should set their own priorities but must have support in the international community. He called for strengthening of development aid and modernization of international financial institutions, including International Monetary Fund. 

Later that the day President Dr Türk, together with Finnish President Halonen, co-chaired one of the six round tables of High-level event, addressing emerging issues and evolving approaches.
