Ambassador Štiglic addressed the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly on Human Security

 

New York, 20 May 2010 – Ambassador Sanja Štiglic addressed the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly on Human Security (under agenda item 48 and 114). Ambassador Štiglic stressed in her statement that the main feature of human security is people-centered approach, security of an individual. Human security involves comprehensive approaches that bring together security, development and human rights. In addressing the risks and root causes of insecurities, human security is prevention oriented and focuses on protection and empowerment of people.

Ambassador Štiglic underlined Slovenian support to the concept of Human Security. Slovenia has upheld its commitments to promote Human Security in areas such as demining, protection of civilians, including children and women in armed conflicts, climate change, education on human rights, human trafficking and others.
