New York, 3 September 2013 - New Permanent Representative of Slovenia, Ambassador Andrej Logar, presented his credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban earlier today.
At the ceremony Ambassador Logar outlined Slovenia's priorities at the United Nations, such as human security, human rights, rights of women and children, youth empowerment, and on that note reminded about Slovenia's bid for a seat at the UN Human Rights Council (2016 - 2018). He also stressed the important emphasis that Slovenia places on preventive diplomacy, especially on Responsibility to Protect and prevention of genocide and other mass atrocities, as well as on preparations of post 2015 development agenda. He also stressed the meaning of multilateral diplomacy for small states.
UNSG Ban stressed many options that are given to small states in multilateral affairs arena and, in this sense, expressed his gratefulness for proactive engagement of Slovenia. He stressed his fond memories of Slovenia and expressed hope to continue great cooperation also in the future.
UNSG Ban and ambassador Logar also briefly touched on the deteriorating situation in Syria and agreed on the key role the Organization needs to play in the future.
