Dr. Petri─Ź elected member of the Advisory Committee on nominations of judges of the International Criminal Court

 

The Hague, 14 November 2012 ÔÇô The Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court in The Hague today unanimously elected members of the Advisory Committee on nominations of judges of the International Criminal Court. Among the elected members of the Advisory Committee is also Professor Dr. Ernest Petri─Ź.

The Advisory Committee will provide professional opinions on the qualifications of the individual nominated candidates for judges of the International Criminal Court. The aim is to identify the best candidates for judges of the court that has jurisdiction over the most heinous crimes.

The members of the Advisory Committee were selected by States Parties according to their competence, experience in international and criminal law, eminence and high moral character among 14 candidates. The other members are representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Gambia, Japan, Canada, Hungary, Germany and Uganda. 

The Republic of Slovenia is a strong supporter of the International Criminal Court, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. We will continue to strongly advocate for the preservation and strengthening of the legal integrity of the Rome Statute, the autonomy of the court and support its work to achieve our common goal - prevention of new crimes and ending impunity for the most serious crimes.
