New York, 17 October 2012 - Ms. Simona Leskovar, Deputy Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the UN addressed the Security Council in the open debate "Peace and Justice, with a special focus on the role of the International Criminal Court."

Ms Leskovar emphasized Slovenia’s strong support to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and welcomed the court’s first judgment and the first decision on reparations for victims. She expressed deep concern about the escalation of the situation in Syria and encouraged all states to become states parties to the ICC in order to achieve its universality. She put special emphasis to the Court’s preventive function and reminded of the initiative of Prime Minister Janša entitled “A World Free from Genocide.”
