PR Å tiglic addresses Security Council's Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict

New York, 12 July 2010 - Permanent Representative of Slovenia Ambassador Sanja Å tiglic addressed Security Council's Debate on Children and Armed Conflict earlier today. She stressed that "2010 was not a very positive year for children affected by armed conflicts around the world. Nevertheless there have been some improvements, among which I would like to highlight the signature of new action plans and the progress that was made in the implementation of existing action plans."

Ambassador Å tiglic expressed Slovenia's strong support for the expansion of the new trigger on attacks on schools and hospitals. She pointed out Slovenia's full support for the campaign for the universal ratification of the protocols by 2012.

In closing ambassador Å tiglic emphasized country's continues engagement in the rehabilitation of disabled children affected by armed conflict and the efforts to remove the presence of landmines and other unexploded ordnances.
