Ambassador Štiglic represented Slovenia at the International Donors' Conference "Towards a New Future for Haiti"

New York, 31 March 2010 - Ambassador Sanja ┼átiglic represented Slovenia at the International DonorsÔÇÖ Conference ÔÇťTowards a New Future for HaitiÔÇŁ, co-organized by United Nations and United States of America, and in cooperation with Brazil, Canada, the European Union, France and Spain. The main objective of the Conference was to mobilize financial support for the recovery, reconstruction and long term development efforts of Haiti in order to overcome the devastating effects of the earthquake that struck the country in January this year.

Ambassador Štiglic announced in her statement at the Conference that the Government of Slovenia decided on 25 March 2010 to allocate additional funds for Haiti in the amount of 465,000 EUR. Bearing in mind that the most urgent problem in Haiti remains providing shelter and sanitation before the rainy season arrives, and that the children are still among the most vulnerable population in Haiti, a part of these funds will be assigned to arrange semi-permanent shelters for up to 100 children in Haiti. This project will be assisted by one of a Slovenian NGOs, which plans to set up a kindergarten in Haiti.
