New York, 17 December 2009 - Ambassador Sanja Ĺ tiglic, Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the UN attended the joint deposit ceremony of the instruments of ratification of the International tropical Timber Agreement, 2006.

The joint deposit ceremony was organized by Sweden, the Presidency of the European Union and was held in the Office of Legal Affairs. The following EU Countries participated: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
The main objective of the Agreement is to develop the international trade in tropical timber and promote the sustainable management of tropical forests. The agreement was adopted on 27 January 2006 in Geneva. The Tropical Timber Agreement, which is not yet in force, has now a total of 41 Contracting Parties.
